When I have to wait in line, I never accept that it means having to waste time. Sometimes at the grocery store, I have to stand in lines for 10 minutes or more. I like to be efficient in my day, so this will just not do. So, I choose to do a little bit of light jogging in place to burn some calories. Or I might use my heavier grocery items (milk cartons, laundry detergent, boxes of soda) and use those items to carefully “lift weights” in bicep curls and shoulder raises. Or I do a combination of the two. I wear my mask. I am careful not to get too sweaty (no one wants to see sweating pooling from other customers). I am always careful to not stand too close to anyone. But once I go through my checklist of “respecting my surroundings”, I have fun with it! Yes, it’s only ten minutes. But that’s ten minutes that doesn’t cost me more time in the day–it’s just a simple bank transaction as I like to say. I deposit some creativity and drop off unnecessary inhibitions, and I withdraw increased fitness, improved mental health, and a more efficient day. Imagine if you do this kind of “transaction” three or four times a day. You get 30 minutes of exercise or more without giving up anything. Standing in line, playing on Facebook or answering email is fine. But there are more healthy alternatives. And yes, sometimes people will stare at me, and I DO try to be inconspicuous. But I am not hurting anyone or anything. In fact, many of told me what I do inspires them. I hope you will feel the same!
