Even when you may not have access to a gym, you can make your gym be being creative. Whether in an airport or at the the office or at home, a chair is a basic piece of equipment that can be incredibly versatile. While flying through the Seattle International Airport recently, I found an excellent, available chair that I used to do a series of exercises–seated triceps dips, seated knee taps, even push-ups. I went through my normal checklist of items to consider, since I was in a public place (using your chair at home is more seamless obviously). First, I made sure the chair wasn’t in use and sturdy to support my exercises. I made sure to have paper towels nearby in case I got the chair sweaty (I didn’t). And I put the chair in a spacious, quiet, and empty part of the terminal where I would have limited interaction with others. I also had my mask on as well to be socially conscious. Otherwise, there’s not much to it. I did 40+ sets of triceps exercises, knocking that out for the day. I got lots of stomach exercises done as well as chest exercises. This was a much more productive, healthy, and useful way to spend my three-hour layover. Then during my actual trans Pacific flight, I used my cords to focus on other muscle groups that easier to work out with cords (that’s for another post). Bottom line: I am surprised why more people don’t think of utilizing their time efficiently by incorporating these kinds of easy and simple exercises throughout the day. Using a chair to exercise intermittently throughout the day is very easy including at the office. Try it!!
