My recent travels found me in Budapest, Hungary, known for its fascinating history, beautiful architecture, and amazing food, among other things. On one of our mini trips out of the hustle and bustle of the capitol city, we decide to ride the train. This was the most economical and interesting way to get to our destination. While on this two hour trip (each way), I looked at my window and enjoyed the scenery–agricultural foods, animals, and small towns. I also exercised. Just because I was commuting on a train, this was no reason to give up on my fitness goals. So for hours, I did seated knee taps, seated arm chopping motions, and used my resistance bands to do some upper body exercises too. This exercise didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the train experience but enhanced it. I felt energized and happy to be burning of those massive calories from the buffet breakfast. It felt great to not waste time and to be able to enjoy more gelato when we got to our destination. I burned 450 calories, did not get overly sweaty, and didn’t disturb anyone around me. I love finding ways to convert wasted time into exercise opportunities!
